Forest II
Simran Ahira

I always disliked nature

Being in nature

But now I wonder

If that is because

I dislike myself

In the city

I am erased

By the crowds

I am one of many

There is no me

There is only us

And any sense of self

Is drowned out

By the sounds

And screaming colour

Here in the forest

I feel like an enormous woman

My big boots crack twigs

Whose screams echo all around

I hear my breath

In the interludes between the duet sung

By the wind and trees

There is everything

And then there is me

With my big boots

And my big hair.
